To perform and assist with, on a shift basis, a variety of operational tasks relevant to maintaining safe and reliable operation of the water treatment facilities.
Required Skills
- Completion of high school or equivalent
- Ability to understand and carry out written or verbal work orders or assignments.
- Knowledge of and ability to perform standard laboratory sampling and testing.
- Ability to perform mathematical and algebraic calculations pertaining to water and/or wastewater treatment with the use of a calculator.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to perform the following: straight pulling, reaching above the shoulder, pushing, walking, standing, crawling, kneeling, and repeated bending.
- Ability to distinguish basic colors and various shades.
- Must have a valid driver''s license.
- New York IIA Water license preferred or ability to obtain within a twelve month time frame.
Required Experience
- 2+ years experience at a water treatment facility
- Operate valve and gates manually through local control centers as directed. Start, stop and operate pumps, engines, and other equipment, including, but not limited to cryogenic oxygen generation and ozone disinfection facilities, multiple hearth incinerators, belt filters, dissolved air floatation units, air nitrification system, oxygen nitrification system, headworks facilities and other process units, as directed by an Operator II or Shift Supervisor.
- Make routine rounds of assigned process areas and record operating data such as run times, chemical usage, flows and other process information. Record operating data in shift logs and perform mathematical calculations.
- Perform necessary process control adjustments following the plan of operations, station orders and laboratory analyses results as directed by an Operator II or Shift Supervisor.
- Train and/or assist in the training of OIT''s and assigned helpers.
- Work with maintenance staff on preventive and corrective maintenance functions so that equipment downtimes do not adversely impact the overall effluent quality and/or permit requirements.
- Monitor and adjust chemical feed rates as directed. Change-out and/or replenish process chemical supplies as necessary.
- May be required to operate a motor vehicle.
- Responsible for general housekeeping of job sites, work areas and other areas as assigned including, sweeping, dusting, mopping, cleaning and painting as necessary to maintain areas to Company standards.
- Observe all on-the-job safety regulations.
- Other related tasks as assigned.
