About

Bonaire is investing in sustainability. The coastal strip of Kralendijk has been provided with a sophisticated, vacuum technology based sewage network: Bonaire Sewage & Sanitation System, short BSSS. On the grounds of LVV at Kaminda Lagun two wastewater treatment plants have been built, one for purification of effluents from septic tanks and cesspools; and one for purification of the sewage water of the BSSS.

Wastewater collected from septic tanks and cesspools of households and businesses is brought by tank trucks to the AWZI plant. Sewage water is moved to the Waste Water Treatment Plant, short WWTP, via the vacuum collector system and a booster station. The capacity is future-proof and can be extended to the processing of 4000 m3 of wastewater per day.
