Does anyone know any ​suppliers of ​ammonia removal ​bacteria ​systems for ​drinking water ​purification ​plants? The Ammonia ​is in the range ​of 1.5 ppm with ​TDS 400; and ​COD 140. ​

  1. Why do you need to remove the ammonia? If the intended use is for drinking, chlorine disinfection can be used to convert the ammonia to monochloramine, which is a persistent disinfectant for the distribution system. Apparently, 1.5 mg/L ammonia is the ideal concentration, according to the WHO Guidelines for Drinking-water Quality, THIRD EDITION INCORPORATING THE FIRST AND SECOND ADDENDA, Volume 1, Recommendations, ISBN 978 92 4 154761 1 (WEB version).

  2. for drinking water? why you need bacteria? you can use other safe and easy system for disinfection

      Do you know any other easy and safe method other than Chlorination, as our client do not want Chlorination system.

  3. There would be plenty of suppliers that could supply a mix of ammonia oxidizing bacteria of the genera Nitrosomonas, Anammox and Nitrobacter. Just use these keywords when searching on Google.

    However just adding bacteria won't remove the ammonia. Also a suitable biological reactor with aeration and process controls is needed as to achieve the ammonia oxidation.

    By the way, the COD is quite high for drinking water production. what is the TOC and BOD?
