Question about sizing a centrifuge
Published on by OTMAN AIT IHIA, Ph.D, Engineer and Researcher at Mohammadia School of Engineers in Technology
Dear friends,
I need to size a centrifuge whose flow of sludge to treat is 197.71 m3 / h and to size the pump that will be used to pump the sludges.
Please, is there a method for sizing the centrifuge and it's pump?
Thank you.

Important is the dry solide content of the sludge is iT 2%ds or 10%ds. That Will make the different in through put. In the centrifuge.

Ronald Visser is of course correct, so design is based on kg/h and the operation time of the decanter, for instance 4hrs/day

My experience and thoughts,
There are a number of very good companies out there and a number of very good distributors that can handle everything you are trying to do. They can utilize their design software and quickly provide you recommendations. I recommend you contact them directly to provide you the necessary information based on their product. There are far to many factors that contribute to the answer to your questions. Suction and discharge pressures, sludge concentrations and consistencies, temps, % sludge makeup, just to name a few. Things like run times, availability of shutdowns for maintenance and how discharge and centrate will be handled, whether direct or capture discharge, required % solids upon discharge, etc.
